Promised to be given an unusual pub decoration from its most famous regular, in the line of Phil Thompson leaving The European Cup in his local back in 1981.

Large, rambling village pub with a split emphasis on eating and drinking. It's opened out and is roughly a horseshoe shape around a bar, but with different levels giving a feeling of separation. The southern end of the pub is more foody, although it's not been 'gentrified'- a pub atmosphere prevails. The northern side was more spartan and was reasonably busy with drinkers. The furnishings and decor are typical and pretty unremarkable- it's not soulless but just 'ordinary'. The home-cooked food was excellent and came in good portions. Beer-wise, it's pretty good, with Black Sheep, London Pride and 2 local beers- Prospect Nutty Slack and Thwaites available on my visit. . Pride was in good form, service friendly.
All in all not a bad place to drop by if in the area, would call in again.

Good choice of ales had the Jennings which was a good pint and decided to stay for some food.

2 menus to choose from plus a specials on the board next to the bar which was the best option as it was cheaper than the prices on the menus.

I found the food to be good and would gladly visit again.

Pub inside does look dated and could do with a fresh lick of paint.

Good choice of ales, usually 5 on, mainly from small Northern Brewers. The pub has Regular offers on; Its 2quid for all cask ale the moment throughout july! Quality food served in both bar & restaurant, although some meals are on the pricey side. There seems to be a problem with flies in the bar area??
On the whole though, well worth a visit.
