user reviews of King William IV, Ripon

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Large pub a short stroll from the market square with a split front room and a smallish bar.

Busy when the wife & I arrived here at around 7pm on a Saturday evening. On the bar are 4 hand pumps which on my visit had the following ales on Theakston Best, Village Brewer White Boar Bitter, Nick Stafford's Bitter and Peek Blonde. My pints of White Boar and Peek Blonde were both very good.

3 TV’s in the bar that were showing football and rugby, both didn’t have the sound on, but this was probably because the music that was playing really loudly (in fact too loudly) from the pool room to the left of the bar. It really was quite intrusive.

The King Billy as it’s known locally really is a drinkers pub, there is no food available here which is nice to find as nearly every pub these days does food.

Unsure why it hasn’t made the 2016 GBG having appeared in the 2015 version but the ales I had were well kept.

A good local and Hambleton Brewery's tap. Was expecting to find a good range of their beers but locals were drinking Theakston bitter and there was a guest from Burton Bridge brewery. Interesting modern photographs of Hambleton Brewery related themes around the walls.

Local pub for local poeple, but friendly enough.
Average ale, nice guinness.

Makes a good early stop off on way into town

Bit basic, very limited choice of beers. Theakston Best only, resonable quality but not the best.

Known locally as the King Billy, (actually William III's nickname but ...) Large double fronted pub noted for a high turnover of landlords/managers. Splendid West Riding Brewery stained glass windows although the interior has been messed about a little. The bar is to the right as you go in through a typical West Riding drinking lobby, the left hand room is the pool room. An odd shaped bar due to some ill advised wall removal. Just a cut above being a basic boozer, a comfortable and friendly pub with mainly working men as customers. Advertises itself as Ripon's only sports bar - it has some framed signed rugby shirts, a dart board and a big telly showing Sky sports; so it can get rammed when there's something on. For your drinking delight they offer Theakston's lacklustre best bitter which is kept well, the usual lagers n stuff also available.
