NEPTUNE, DERBY
This pub isn’t as bad as the reviews and rating would lead you to believe ! Having said that, the previous reviewers hit the nail on the head – there are plenty of much better pubs nearby.

Anyway, the bar is straight ahead as you enter the door. However, you can’t actually get to it – it’s behind an opaque glass window ! [You have to turn either left or right and double back on yourself ] Typical locals pub with Sky Sports TV (and thus Doom Bar), but not unwelcoming in any way. I was lucky that the TVs were showing cricket, and there was also also another beer on (2 handpumps). Marstons Pedigree, and it was quite reasonable.

Also, I believe it opens at 6am to cater for shift workers.

5/10 – perfectly reasonable, but better places nearby.

Agree with ramdrinker1. If you're in that area and want a decent pint better to go to the Babington Arms just around the corner.

Called in last weekend. Nothing spectacular. Apart from Doombar they only had keg & lager. Better off with short walk to Midland Road areas.

The Neptune is an old established pub which has been serving ale to the citizens of Derby for well over 250 years. The present pub isnt as old as that, but it has been around for a while so it does have a bit of atmosphere and it is opposite one of the entrances to Derbys hideous Westfield Shopping Centre.

The downside is that the only real ale it serves is Pedigree. Its OK for a swift half whilst her indoors is shopping, but my recommendation is to walk the 200 yards down Osmaston Road and then up Babington Lane and sample the excellent selection real ales in the Babington Arms.
