| Cheap and cheerful on my recent visit. Prices a good quid cheaper then nearby establishments. Staff were helpful, knew how to pour a pint and the service was slick. The ale my friends had was in good nick. I had bottled beer who can complain about that. It seems as if it is a place where most people come in for one drink and move, for train or whatever, but we did get talking to an Irishman who is a regular who visits once a week for a quiet drink. I asked him how he gets a quiet drink here as the place is busy. His reply was " Nobody bothers you here, a few cheap drinks then a quick tube home. What's not to like". | Re : The Barrel Vaults - this has now slipped into typical Wetherspoon mode. Has more of a through other feel to it as well. Now £3.65 for ales (Truman's Swift - which wasn't up to much) or £4.15 for Pride. How can they justify an extra ten bob for an inferior product ? Snarling_Mallard - 12 Mar 2019 13:37 |
| This hasn't re-appeared as a pub/bar but within the station along the opposite end (towards Kings Cross) there is a new Wetherspoon (can't seem to add new pubs anymore - maybe they won't let me because I'm such a twat). It's called the Barrel Vaults and was absolutely manic on a Wednesday afternoon. The pint of Darwin's Original was a good pint. Unlike many Wetherspoons they had 9 staff behind the bar working like demons and it was still a struggle to get served - you need all your barging and shouting skills to manage it. Pretty understandable why it was so busy though - even at £3.55 for your pint of ale it's still substantially less than the fiver plus most of the neighbouring establishments charge.
