There seems to be a lot of competition between number 1 and number 2 but I feel people should not be swayed by others opinions. Came in here with an open mind butafter being overlooked twice by the small blonde woman behind the bar in favour of her locals I was just about to walk out until the young gentleman served me. The beer quality was quite good to be fair but the place probably needs a good clean, the locals don't seem to be your buffet bar/station platform kind of clientele and probably more suited to a fosters, john Smith's type of bar. The building is great and would gain a lot more if there was a better choice of ale.

Larger than the No. 2 and accessed via the station car park, the No. 1 is a sprawling place with lots of little nooks and crannies in which to sup a quiet pint. Beer range was limited during my visit, but was excellent quality. Friendly, with a choice of a boisterous atmosphere in the bar where football was on TV, or a quieter time in the lounge.

Well kept good selection of real ales and other beers in the original Cleethorpes station, later replaced (pre-1900) by the one which contains the No2. Enjoy a pint while the trains rattle by. Then have one in the No2, then have another in the No1 etc, etc...

What a great place! Where else could you go after a gap of 8 months, and be greeted with "Oh, hi there, pint of extra cold Guinness and a Carling is it?" We were stunned. Small, unpretentious, but well worth a visit. We'll be visiting again in August (we live 300 miles away!).

Try it.
