user reviews of Squirrel Inn, Chard

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Went back here having gone in on a whim about 20 years ago and been made very welcome. I was really expecting it to have closed as it really is out in the sticks on the Broadwindsor to Chard b-road.

I also had to knock on the door - admittedly bang on midday but on a Saturday - to get them to open up.

Inside were a selection of the landlady's kids treating the bar like a playroom - not a good first impression - but they were soon hustled upstairs.

However, a nice selection of drinks (I had cider - Thatchers Gold I think), and the landlady - who was charming - sat and chatted to me for most of the time I was there.

Decor didn't look tired to me, just bog standard country pub, I imagine it would be a nice place to stop when there were a few more punters in there. I'm going to give it another go.

Went to the Squirrel with a friend today for a lunchtime pint and some food, was very disappointed to find the pub closed. This was on a Friday afternoon at 1pm !!! No notices to say why it was closed, a light was on but no one answered when I knocked the front door, but I'm sure someone was there.

I doubt I shall be going to this pub again as it's a bit out in the sticks anyway and if you can't rely on them being open why bother.

Nice friendly little pub, a bit out in the sticks. Foods not bad, but the decor looks a bit tired. Looks a little run down outside too.
They do a Sunday 'Carvery' for a fiver!!! The meat looked a bit dry and overcooked but I must say it tasted OK. Worth a look if your passing.

Decent, unpretentious country pub a bit in the middle of nowhere. I was on Guinness so can't comment on the ale.
