Excellent Sunday roast last weekend and the Brakspear Bitter (sorry "Gravity") was an unexpected and good find so I didn't bother trying the Wadworth 6X or the other ale option. Service was very efficient which was just as well as the rainclouds threatened our uncovered table outside the front door.

Beautiful country pub recently refurbished but in keeping with the tradition. A good selection of ales and ciders (ales served by gravity, as is increasingly in vogue, but still worth drinking.
Food served but untasted on this visit.
Dont be mislead by the address as Chard; it is in fact several miles away on the edge of the Blackdown Hills.

We visited this pub on a Wednesday evening - four adults and five children aged 6-12. The bar staff couldn't have been more friendly and welcome to look after the children (in particular). The beer was top notch ( Otter and Summer Lightning were two of the range). We stayed for dinner and the staff were very happy to offer the children smaller versions of the main menu plus some additional dishes - but none of the usual rubbish dished out by some pubs under a "childrens menus". This was proper food, cooked properly and not expensive beyond any means. The great thing about this pub is that whilst us visitors tucked into our excellent food and beer, the sounds of a busy locals pub raged on behind us - not a destination pub, just a village pub getting on with decent village pub trading. Congratulations to the owners for holding the line.

went there few months ago and had a great time and meal, service was good and food eas just right. went back last week to find all changed, the young man on the bar, could have been far friendlier. And the food was not the same, i over heard that the chefs had left and some new ones had taken over, they dont seem as competent

This pub has recently been re-opened and refurbished; the carpets have been ripped up and a flag stone floor layed throughout, and has a more stylish modern feel. Very nice.

The beers always seem to be good, local real ales, and a nice wine selection.

I've only eaten here once, I wasn't overly impressed. Overpriced small portions, which would usually be fine if the quality was good. But it wasn't. 15 for a small steak, hand full of chips, and a splash of weak sauce.

A nice country pub none the less!
