user reviews of Sloanes, Gloucester

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Where to start with this? Clueless management are trying to directly compete with well established Eastgate street bars by having no discernable music policy, abhorrent drinks, and a "barred elsewhere? Come here!" approach.

At some point a couple of years back, the walls contained the nicest, and modern graphic design of any building in Gloucester (save for proprietary galleries). This has not-so-recently gone. When asked, the manager quipped, "it looked old fashioned" - and then went for magnolia. Unbelievable.

Soundsystem is considerably worse than your Grans1950's bathroom radio, and DJs are consistent... One of them just yells into the microphone with the gain turned up so high that a pure squarewave is produced, and then the music fades back up slowly as the clipping turns itself off on the amplifier. "Monkey Dust" eat your heart out. Oh, and generally only one channel will be working at any given time. Mono FTW.

When near to closing time, the staff will remove obnoxious overpriced drinks whilst you're not looking / throw out girls on their on onto the wonderfully safe streets of Gloucester. When quizzed about this attitude, they will scream at you in the least professional manner you'd comprehend. This is a disaster waiting to happen, lets be honest about that area of town.

The staff also seem surprised that it is permanently empty. This alone should tell you everything. This is not one of those pubs that is "so bad its good", it is the most irritating, repugnant, shockingly repellent, detestable venue I have ever stepped foot in. Seriously, trust me. None of this is in any way an exaggeration.

I don't how this place survives - it always seems near enough empty. Nothing really wrong with it though but not much right either. Good food served all day and very clean are it's strong points, but no atmosphere, no character and no customers...
