user reviews of the Kings Arms, Solihull

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Good points - it serves real ale. Bad points - it's criminally expensive (dearer than lager & cider, on a par with Guinness), not particularly well-kept and this is a chain food pub in the countryside on a main road out of a city. Yes, one sight of the sun and it's rammed.

What marks the place out from the crowd of similarly bland pubs is the service. To call it bad is to damn with faint praise. It's spellblindingly, laughably, wait five minutes to get served while both staff behind the bar clean up without acknowledging your existence, order a drink which first they've never heard of and when it's pointed out to them on a blackboard say is sold out anyway, smile and their face would crack, please and thank you are a foreign tongue, take your food order before casually saying it'll be a half-hour wait, getting served in turn is a lucky accident, run out of crisps on a Sunday afternoon, appalling it's an attraction in its own right.

This pub is located a mile and a half south of Knowle where the A4141 crosses the Grand Union canal. BITA's website has it right, but the pubs own site is wrong, which meant we had an unexpectedly long walk to get there! Three beers on handpump including Tiger & Black Sheep. The Guest Ale, Greene King Fireside was superb. Food good too, with a good range of vegetarian choices.
