user reviews of the Bun Penny, Lee on the Solent

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

It's unclear to me why this is rated so modestly.

We found it lively with fine ales and food. The serving staff were politeness and good humour personified.

It was well worth the drive over from Gosport, which is not quite so well-served with pubs, it seemed to us.

7-8/10

Busy pub with a reasonable selection of ales in Lee on the Solent. Otter Bitter, Goddards Fuggle Dee Dum, Butcombe Adam Henson's Rare Breed & Flowerpots Goodens Gold were the 4 ales on offer, whilst they also have 2 Westons cider on offer - Traditional Scrumpy & Bounds Scrumpy. Nearly all seating was taken on our arrival and many people were propping up the bar. So we felt a bit like spare parts until some seats became available! I guess this is a measure of its popularity locally.

The Bun Penny changed hands nearly 2 years ago and since then it has been a consitantly amazing pub in Lee On The Solent and a firm favourite for local and visitors from afar. Wonderful friendly landlord, landlady and bar staff with a really nice atmosphere for all - families, couples and groups young and old. Brill range of drinks, special beers and ales, wines and coffees. A wonderful bar menu and sit down restaurant. I can't rate this pub highly enough whether you want a quiet family meal, long lesiurely beer session in the pub garden or that special pub date. I've recommended our local to many who now bring family for that special occasion from far away - worth coming to (try the band nights - very good bands whom come on about 9pm on special nights - especially Wink 182).

Great looking pub inside and outside sad to say though that the staff can be unattentive and slapdash. On that basis it's a risk to visit!

now open as a free house, selling lots of local ale and cider, food is very good and well priced, now worth a visit
