Sticklepath is truly blessed to have two wonderful pubs in the village so close together.
On my many travels i had never been to this place and was impressed.
The pub is like stepping back in time and is about as old school country pub as ever i have seen one, with an open fire, ales from the cask and farmers turning up with wellies and wet dogs!

The problem with the place was me, i was bloated with a meal i had just eaten at the Taw river inn across the road and couldn't relax with my pint as was too full!

I will be back though in the future and plan my day much better!

7/10 (My fault)

this pub is totally out of date - yipee, a proper pub at last, welcoming, friendly, cheap and very traditional. lovely landlady, my wife and I were chatting about the Navy for ages. as previous post visit and enjoy, there are very few like this left anywhere.

Lovely atmosphere when we visited. Friendly locals, good beer from the barrel and a greeting from the pub dog. Pasties warmed in the aga for lunch

Friends of ours are always raving about the place. Took us there on the Saturday evening before last. Quite quiet so the landlady was sat with the punters having a chat. On our arrival she immediately rose saying "Welcome. Come on in!" So fab first impression!

The locals were friendly and the beer...Dartmoor Dragon's Breath in top form! We only stopped for a short while but such was our pleasure that we returned next day after visiting Finch's Forge (NT) next door. Much busier with locals, all of whom were friendly and made way so that we could get to the bar. Nice to see dogs in a pub too (even though I am not a dog owner!).

My friends tell me that the landlord died not too long ago but his widow is doing a grand job, ably helped by the villagers it seems. The place has also had a spring clean.

Highly recommended if you like old fashioned pubs with a bit of character. My wife and I fell in love with the place immediately.

I'll be honest, I skipped past this pub because it looks derelict from the outside! Now, having read a few reviews I wish I hadn't. The outside needs a coat of white wash and the sign needs a bit of a wipe down as well. Might pick up a few extra punters.
