We have never really been regular pub 'goers', but the Nevill Bull seems to have changed this!
The atmosphere is relaxed, Kate and Paul are fantastic 'hosts' and the food excellent. We have started to regularly eat here and if you only have one pub meal this year - this is the place to go! A lot of the menu is locally sourced - pigeon and rabbit from the local estate is one such example. Perhaps not the 'two for one' pricing on food that many people have become acustomed to, so may seem slightly more expensive. BUT quality, quantity and the 'nothing is too much trouble' approach of Kate and Paul makes it excellent value for money. You would be very hard pressed to not find something on the menu that you would not like and we have never left disappointed.
Our children are welcomed and we have seen many dogs made of fuss of, including having dog bowls readily available - so an ideal resting place if out with the children/dog on a walk or bike ride!
The beer garden is small and perfectly formed, pretty hanging baskets and flower beds surround you. Kate and Paul have done wonders in the short space of time they have been here (under a year I believe) and I suspect that there is still plenty that they plan to do, to improve it even more ...... although I am not convinced there really is much more that can be done, as in our opinion it is great.
Give it a go!

Wow! What a pub!

Been a couple of times since new owners took over and then went to a wedding there on Thursday! It was fantastic! Kate, not just a brilliant cook, they tell me she is a trained florist and by looking at the flowers throughout the pub you could tell!

The food was fantastic, hog roast for main course (superb), the wine and beer all flowing (were great) and the weather just made a perfect day. We spent most of the time on the flower filled patio (hanging baskets in full bloom) and nothing was too much trouble. They had even laid on a superb singer, Chris Till, who I understand plays there quite a lot.

All in all a truly wonderful day! GO THERE EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE A WEDDING GUEST!

Splendid!

We sat in the patio garden and enjoyed a delicious meal! Loved the steaming tureens of veg, and the food was both plentiful and well presented. A very well thought out menu, using lots of local produce, exactly what one would hope for in a country pub.

Unsurprisingly, it was busy, both with locals and cyclists, as well as the local lord! And all very friendly to this non-local. Lots of events on offer, but I sadly live too far away to indulge.

As a red wine drinker, I was delighted to see the choice on offer, not your usual run-of--the-mill pub offerings at all, and yet still very reasonably priced.

A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon, and we hope to be back son!

Bit of a nondescript looking pub in the middle of Birling. Had a decent pint of Harveys Sussex and an OK pint of Landlord. Interesting menu, they had a hog-roast going on the Sunday we were there, a cheap "hog in a bap" option or the full roast dinner were on offer. Very friendly and helpful staff. Not too impressed with the beer garden, it isn't much more than a roped-off corner of the car park.

The proprietors who took over here less than a year ago have certainly made leaps and strides. Beer variety and quality are both excellent; there is a healthy level of custom and live music events are frequent. One receives a very convivial welcome from the landlady, who happily engaged us in conversation. Apparently the pub's become a route for the new and ambitious Kent Brewery to ply its wares; a meet the brewer night saw 50 pints of his Pale sold. And what an ale it is - immensely sessionable and a real treat. More KB offerings will undoubtedly follow. The plan is for the licensees to buy it from Enterprise. I really hope that comes off as the Nevill would be in sound hands for the duration. Keep up the good work folks, and I'm coming back as soon as the opportunity presents.
