| Once upon a time, in Saxon days, there was an overgrazed wood. After the trees died and none replaced them, it became a common (about the year 1200). Then it was divided up and became a hamlet of cottages with a pub. Then it was overrun by a vile tide of jerry-built bungalows. The pub survives. | I like this place. The Southwood, Australian Arms and St Lawrence Tavern are all our locals - but Southwood is by far our favourite. Sure, the Australian has more interesting beers, but the Southwood is much more friendly. It's the sort of place you can go for a quiet drink and be left alone of you want to be, or have a conversation if you want one.
