user reviews of the Peacock, Nantwich

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Don't think I've been in the Peacock for thirty-five years; stopped off there on my way north to Liverpool a couple of times in the seventies, if memory serves me well. Sunday evenings, about seven. A bit of a break in the journey.
Lord alone knows what it's like now.
I note that previous posters did not seem to be hugely impressed, but it was OK - a six, perhaps - when i visited.

No rating now - a third of a century later!

11/10/10
I rang The Peacock on 8/10/10 to book a table for 2 on 10/10/10 at 7.15pm. We arrived at 7.05pm and upon entry couldn't find anyone at the restaurant booking desk to confirm the reservation. We asked the waitress who happened to be there and she verbally confirmed they'd had a call but from the questions asked it was obvious she was bluffing because she had to ask the number in the party and the time etc. The table didn't have a reserved sign and as we were being seated the waitress told us there was an hour and a half wait to be served. The restaurant was half empty and many of the people seated did not seem to have food on the table. Assuming the wait was no longer it would have meant we'd get a starter fifteen minutes before the kitchen closed at 9 pm. On top of that I'm diabetic and can't delay eating that long. Not a good impression and I doubt very much we'll go there again.

I can only agree with the previous poster. It has signs about the overnight accommodation and appearing family friendly. But the pub itself is anything but that. I had been going there for nearly 20 years, but not often. But this is the worst I have seen it. Now I have a toddler it is openly unfriendly to children and yet used to have a great playground, gone now. For an out of town pub, it is when you try and walk it, it has no redeeming features, and what they have removed (playground) was what probably kept it going. wont be sorry if it folds. The food was a bit pretentious and not that good either.

My father, myself and my 18 month old daughter went for a meal. On arrival the waitress ushered us into a pokey family room saying they were not encouraging families with young children now, but we could order a half adult meal for the child. We could only sit in there and they didn't supply highchairs. Another Lady was sitting in the room, trying to balance a toddler on her knee whilst eating 1 handed, looked like she was having a dreadful time. So we left. My father spoke to some friends who's children are long grown up and they said their meal was rather disappointing. I know they eat out locally often so they would have a good idea how well it compared locally. They have a massive advert for the accomodation behind saying kids can stay free! Why do that if you don't want children in your pub?
Some clear advertising and manners wouldn't go amiss at the Peacock. I know they have upset alot of people who went there when it was a family orientated pub.
People shouldn't be made to feel second class just for having children.
