user reviews of Royal Oak, Salisbury

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This is my mate in Salisbury's local but it's taken me several years of intermittent visits to get there. We went on Sunday night over the Jubilee weekend. It was busy at 9pm as the quiz was on. We were too late to join in, but would like to to go back and have a crack at it - proper old fashioned pub quiz! The landlady runs it and she's great.

Atmosphere excellent, beer good, though as previously noted a little pricey for suburban location. The food looked good and quizzers were fed excellent sausages (they let us have some even though we weren't competing). View from back balcony to Old Sarum is fantastic.

Recently refurbished to what seems to be the common standard and style these days.

3 real ales on when I visited. I had a pint of Bass which was fine. Price was 3 which I think is a bit expensive considering where it is and there being plenty of other pub choices towards the city centre. Having said that, the view from the pub balcony across the Avon valley towards Old Sarum is superb.
