Went in there last Thursday. Unfortunately bumped into an obnoxious couple from Surrey called Daniel and Katherine! Totally spoiled the atmosphere. Thankfully, much to everyone's delight, they didn't stay long!
The pub was brilliant as usual by the way!

What's wrong with Northerners ?, Get thyssens back down south lass if tha dunt like it up 'ere. It's sign of how good this pub is if it's full.
Previous reviewers say this place is expensive. I always judge the rip-off scale of a pub by how much they charge for a bowl of chips. Here it's £1.60. Try the Derwentwater Arms at Calver where they charge £3 per bowl or the Peacock at Rowsley where it's over £4 per bowl or most of the other Peak District tourist traps where it's always over £2.50. CAMRA continue to put this pub in their nominated lists for best area pub of the year - What more to say?
The beer range, quality and price are superlative. Food is inexpensive and good quality. Decor and seating are a bit spartan but only southern softies expect plush seating as if in some Parisian brothel.

Went in there last Thursday, absolutely FULL to the brim with Northerners. We left very quickly. Be warned. Thanks, Daniel and Katherine, Surrey

Went to this pub for a midweek lunch. Myself and partner both had steaks, which were good. However, the portions were a let down. There were not enough chips, and the quality left a bit to be desired. Only 2 mushrooms and 2 onion rings each, were also on the small side. We felt for the portion size both our meals were very overpriced. (11.95 and 15.95). Also felt the homemade banoffee pie was a let down too much cream and pastry. The dining room lacked atmosphere, and not much space between the tables. However, on a good note the staff were very welcoming and friendly.

Good beer, great food (Only had a ploughmans but it was excellent) staff were great - no complaints apart from its not within walking distance of my house.
