Are there two Marquis of Lorne pubs near the Black Lion in Gillingham? I ask because the fatigued old pit I went in the other day was certainly nothing like the reviews below.
Clientelle was mainly old/ mutated/ hammered, ales on offer numbered one (a Christmas ale - in February), interior was in severe need of updating and the side bar was being used mainly as a storage area for excess stock and beermats.
The one plus was the amusing Action Man and Hitler dolls adorning the shelves; almost worth the agony of drinking there. At least the local yoof stay well away as there's no pint smashing the place up when it wont be noticed.

'Popped in' with a friend for the first time yesterday for a quick drink. Left about 5 hours and several pints later! Excellent, traditional pub with character and welcoming landlady. - all are too rare nowadays. I don't live particularly close but will definitely be back - next week!

Good old pub with a good character. Great real ales. no chavs. and very welcome. cant make it often but when I do I really enjoy the place.

I live quite far out of town so go to lots of pubs in this area. There some good ones and this is one of them.

Not far from train station opposite Black lion sports center.

I like drinking here alot some places can be a bit clicky and unwelcoming nowdays but not the Marquis of lorne. I always get a friendly welcome from the land lord and find it very easy going.

The beer is amoungst the best iv had round Medway. there is also a large range of local ciders served strait from the barrel. good schnapps collection too. There is usually some kind of chilli product on offer.

Pool table is now gone so there is more seats. There is a dart board now though.

As far as we could tell, this is the only decent, proper pub in Gillingham. Very friendly landlord and staff. Their mission is to get this pub working the proper way through serving great beer with a smile and friendly athmosphere.

They display four proper ales of good quality and reasonable prices. If they stick to this concept it shouldn't be too difficult to succeed in Gillingham...

Following on from the last post of which I totally agree this is a genuine locals pub in Gillingham near the high street and bus stop close by and easy access to train station so no excuse not to come over and give the pub a go!!
Good beer selection including 4 ales and all at very reasonable prices or even better for the current market.
TV up on the wall for sporting events, pool table and friendly atmosphere with a good natured landlord who knows whats what in the pub trade and is always welcoming.
A real pub in an age when real pubs are dying so come and give it your support and dont let the great English Pub Die!!
