A lovely pub ruined by the staff, poorly-kept ales and the bloody great big TV screen. The Irish barman is arrogance personified. Shame as this is beautiful pub.

Popped in having walked dog at nearby White Horse and Uffington Castle and worked up a thirst. We sat in lovely garden where dog was welcomed, and had a light lunch of soup and open sandwiches which were different from the norm and delicious. Well kept pint of Arkells 3B rounded it off nicely. Staff were all friendly and helpful, and despite living miles away we will be back soon.

Dropped in whilst passing for a quick pint & snack on a Saturday afternoon. Had not been in this pub for a good 15 years or so. There were a few cars in the carpark (always a good sign) & on entering we were greeted warmly by a member of staff. Grabbed apint of well kept Arkells 3b (& the better half had a lager). Got a table next to one of the open fires (very nice)& ordered a sandwich from the menu. They came after a short while & im not sure if they should be called a sandwich, but what i will say is they are very very tasty & a little bit diferent. Made a refrehing change. Finnished off with a decent latte. Had a quick chatt with a couple of the very courteous staff who said the landllords had been there since just before xmas 2010. Nice staff, good beer(the one i tried) nice food. Nice warm pub as a country pub should be (in my opinion) & no fruit machine or jukebox. We will be popping in nexr tiimme we pass that way

After a previous visit in Jan 2009 where we found the beer to be good and the food exceptional we visited again last week. The beer is still good, Arkells on draught, the Moonlight was very good. However, the menu has changed and food is dismal. We tried a couple of starters; small portions of poorly prepared and presented food at a high price. Main menu seems to be burger & chips or jacket and fillings. Plus a surcharge on all plastic including debit.

I've never been impressed by this place, but recently we were told it was under new management and thought we'd give it a try again. First impressions were good- it's been tidied up and looks better inside. However, it went downhill from there. We hadn't booked but the place was half-full. Despite this, the landlord looked perplexed at our request and it took him five minutes of head-scratching and staring into the diary before he decided he could fit us in. We had a drink at the bar and waited for our table to be set..and waited..and waited. We asked if we could order, but no - "only one order at a time into the kitchen" is the policy. Eventually, the waitress arrived and said flatly (and I quote) "what do you want?". My partner chose but was told that was off the menu (why they couldn't have said that before I don't know). When we did get the food it was OK but nothing to get excited about. Oh well, we'll all have to keep waiting for this place to get the management it deserves...
