fantastic pub - in all departments this pub is brilliant

its location is perfect, hidden up on the edge of the chilterns. the building itslef is wonderfully old and genuinly charming both inside and out. great garden out front with next to no traffic passing by (horses make up half the traffic in fact). brilliantly attentive and friendly staff and owners. the beer is great with at least one local brewery offering on each visit. and really great food, which is genuinly prepared with care and attention of by the landlord himself.

all in all this is the best pub in the risborough area. 100% worth the journey up and out of risbourough town.

Pub in a very scenic setting at the foot of the Chilterns. 3 ales were on - St Austells Endeavour, Sharps Doombar & Braks Bitter - the latter was well kept. A couple of years ago the room to the left had (and & still has) a large TV screen but the rest of it looks like a rubbish tip - what happened? Not enough customers? Otherwise a fine pub which should be supported.

I called in here today to have a reunion drink with someone I hadn't seen in ages, whose local this is. The beer- Black Sheep- was well up to standard, and so two pints went down easily and well. We decided to have lunch there in the bar, although there is a separate dining room. The choice of food was adequate if not outstanding. I can report favourably on the sausage and onion baguette, and I heard no complaints about the jacket potato with prawns.

The atmosphere was convivial with a mixed crowd, including three dogs- so beware if you don't like the latter! There was an authentic log fire; sufficiently authentic that its smoke initially wafted itself into the room and to our table- but that was a temporary quirk of the wind, and didn't last.

There was no background music, praises be. Friendly staff. What else? The gents' loo was clean and fresh, and the dining room looked pretty spacious.

I would happily go again.

I spend a lot of time here, good in summer and winter. Nice open fire, good ale's sometimes do Hobgoblin, friendly staff, bbq's in summer, dogs welcome. Best food is at weekends when there are lots of specials on.

Great little traditional village pub, near to all the walks at Whiteleaf (near Princess Risborough), very good English food (including sandwiches), good, well kept Brakspear's, dog & children welcomed.
