user reviews of the Bell Inn, Smalley

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Popped in yesterday for the beer festival. Good pub indeed. Staff very friendly and helpful plus a good choice on handpump, Taylors Best, Taylors Landlord, Harvest Pale and Pedigree, plus we were treated to 8 beers and a cider outside in the festival gazebo. Large spacious garden which adds extra space and ambience to the whole pub. Definately will be back soon!

Well, nearly two years on and I can confirm from my recent visit that the Bell is still just as good. Half a dozen or more real ales - the one I had was an excellent Whim Hartington. I didn't eat but the menu looked good value and the people next to me seemed to enjoy what they had.

It feels like a proper pub too. And a very welcoming staff presence.

Nearly three years on from the last review, it is nice to report that the Bell Inn seems to have hardly changed.

I can confirm that the BITE reports of 24.01.07 and 28.08.06 are as valid today as they were when they were written.

The Bell offers a good selection of real ales, the regulars seem to be Whims Hartington Bitter and IPA, Pedigree and JHB, plus two guests, which when we visited recently were Adnams Broadside and London Pride.

No problems with the staff who were all very friendly and efficient, and to repeat the previous reviewers comments, the food is good and not over expensive.

From now on the Bell is definitely on the list of quality pubs where we will drink and eat at again.

I might be biased because this is my local. The licensee has done a fantastic job. There is always a selection of well kept real ales, competitively priced. The staff are professional and pleasant. It is a safe pub with high standards in all respects. The food is good and not overexpensive. Quality accommodation if required. The acolades are well deserved.

This pub is a thing of beauty and a joy to behold. It's got history, good beer (and range), good garden and tremendous character. The cosy right-hand bar could be a cottage sitting room. If you've read your newspaper, you can tour the pub looking at the walls, there's scarcely a blank space and plenty to interest. Don't just take my word for it - go there!
