| This pub belies it's appearance and is much rougher in nature than the image and location would initially suggest. It�s a staunch locals' pub too - we were kept waiting for ages deliberately whilst the barmaid made a point of establishing that nobody else in the whole pub needed serving before she was prepared to attend to us. This all changed when the landlord came down a few minutes later, we saw a visible and welcome change in the whole atmosphere so maybe it's worth a visit again? Cyberbarman - 30 Sep 2009 17:43 |
| Charming old Shepherd Neame pub in a prominent spot on the edge of the old town, near the duck pond. I'd often driven past and thought it would be a nice place for a drink. It has loads of ancient exposed wood beams, and should be awesome. Sadly the place is geared up as a lad's local and any hope of making the most of the pub's character is lost underneath the fruit machines, electronic darts board, pool table and general working men's club atmosphere. It's an OK pub, quite friendly and comfortable, it's just not what I had hoped it would be. This place does offer a rare chance of drinking the Shepherd Neame Mild, but it clearly is not a popular drink as the beer was stale and vinegary. SilkTork - 16 Apr 2006 09:35 |
