Somewhat disappointed in a small town with average pubs at best this was as the rest of them. Forge Brewery's Litehouse is a decent ale, not here, almost undrinkable. Nice enough service but drink in another town is my best advice

My wish came true.
During the past year, this pub has become "The Champ."
Great beers, brilliant musical entertainment of all genres and great food.
Very friendly and welcoming pub.

Its OK now booze fans. I've not been to Appledore before, so no nothing of its history. This pub was packed on a Friday night - with a band setting up at the far end. A busy friendly man kept bringing out the most wonderful looking Pizza's, but we had already eaten at the next door chipper. Never mind, we contended ourselves with the wonderful real ales that were on. Didn't catch its name - just asked for the "Dark Ale". Band were good, and more and more people of all ages kept coming in. Great pub.

Hopefully, one day, someone will make a go of this puib. However, once again its closed and the rumour is that the owner want to de-license it and use it as his private dwelling. This move must be objected to!!

Gave this pub another try a few weeks ago and it's got even worse than before! Beer foul with hardly any choice from the pumps, one beer, usually my favourite was being served from a BOX on the bar. Unbelievable! The management had allowed customers to bring in Fish and chips from the shop next door which stank the place out.The live duo were so loud the windows as rattling in the frames. This place has had 3 owners within the last 12 months or so which provides a clue and the only decent member of staff has moved to the Heavitree as she was embarrassed having to regularly tell customers that most of the taps had ran out. Avoid!!
