| Popped in recently for the first time in a many years to watch the eternally excellent Scam 69 play a gig and was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere, service and pricing. It's a classic two bar lay out. The left hand side (where the bands play) is an area that will appeal to those who grew up drinking in down to earth local pubs. It has a proper pub carpet, old well worn-in tables and a mixture of comfortable seating designed for function rather than aesthetic appeal. The best seats in the house to my mind are those located left of the door by the window, where there is a raised semi-circular bench style seat that is slightly raised a step above the floor level. There were a couple of TVs showing football, but this is more of an "old man's" pub room, designed for drinking, laughing and telling tall tales. The room extends a fair way back and live music is performed at the very far end from the entrance, is audible and visible to almost everyone on that side of the pub without being deafening. Service was quick and friendly. This is a Wells & Co. pub which is the current iteration of the former Charles Wells brewery, which upon being split-up no longer produces Eagle IPA which I used to be quite fond of and now uses their own "Brewpoint" brewery to try new and different beers. I tried the only one they had on tap "Foghorn" which is an Amercian Style IPA. Several days later, I'm still not entirely sure of what I made of it. Initially it seemed to be very odd with a slightly florar, almost soapy taste and very little citrus and I didn't immediately take to it. As I worked my way through the pint, either it improved or my tastebuds adjusted and by the end I thought it was fairly decent. I didn't rush to order another though, but wouldn't rule out another go at it in future. The rest of their beers are very standard fare (Guinness, Madri, Fosters, Carling & Pravha) and the one draft cider is Strongbow. I had both Guinness and Madri, which were fine and fairly priced. The other bar to the right of the pub is very much aimed at the younger, predominantly male clientele and is a light wood, plain white walls and spot lit affair that hosts pool tables and a dart board and at least as many TV screens as the larger more traditional side of the pub in a smaller space. It seems to be fine if that's your bag, but it isn't mine particularly, so should you bump into me in this boozer expect to see me in the left hand bar casting an envious eye on that seat by the window. Will definitely call again. Not a pub you would go out of your way to visit, but if there's a band on you want to see, you happen to be passing through or visiting nearby or better yet if you live within a short walk of it - this is a nice enough place to while away an evening. | Visited for the first time today and enjoyed an Eagle IPA while sitting in the sunshine in the large back garden. Two ales on tap - Eagle IPA and Smooth at �2.80 a pint. Very drinkable. Pretty large inside, obviously caters for people who watch sport on TV and the staff were very friendly too, so extra marks for that. duchyjim - 26 Jul 2012 20:46 |

| I really like this pub, comparing it to many other pubs in the local enfield area, I found the bar staff friendly with a great sense of humour, great atmosphere on every occasion I have visited. They are great for sporting events, especially football and the London Derby days here are fantastic - definatly a good day out if I can't get a ticket for the game!! I will definatly be watching the world cup here as I like the beer garden they have it's a good size and they have a telly outside! great for me and my fellow smokers!! I also happened to be in here on a day when they were raising money for a local boy who wasn't very well, there was a huge turnout for him - good to see the community spirit still alive. a well deserved 10 out of 10 from me - worth popping in to check it out if in the area!
