user reviews of the Old Station Inn, Birstwith

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This pub may be called the Station Hotel. But the station and railway is long gone. Although the old bridge outside does show that it did once exist. The pub has modern decor and an emphasis on food. Tables are mainly for diners. But there are a few for drinkers in the area around the bar. The ale selection is good - Tetleys Bitter, Black Sheep Golden Sheep, Great Newsome Fothingham Best & Copper Dragon Black Gold. Kids are welcome. Not really my kind of pub - a bit too modern.

Been a few times, the beer is always very good, will drink there again but as far as gastro pub...sorry...i know it can difficult in a village selling food, ordering supplies , quantities, etc ,but a smaller menu of fresh food will always be better than serving Macro Skinless Frozen Cod Loins covered in a bad sauce with tough prawns. I wanted a steak, which looked good and fresh, but sold out after 2 servings, so i asked for battered fish, also sold out after 3 or 4 servings. So I got Grilled Cod and was very disapointed. Before anyone says that I dont know what I am talking about, I retired at the age of 47 on the profits of a very busy seafood bar that only sold fresh produce. Fresh is best, be honest to your customers.
