user reviews of the Fox, Steventon

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Largish GK pub next door to The Cherry Tree, surprisingly dead for a Monday night. Morland Original the only ale on tap, but in mighty fine fettle. Slightly too bright a decor for my liking, but the other solitary drinker and barman were affable even if, ironically, the majority of the conversation concerned the excellent North Star around the corner.

Brightly lit and clean, this pub has been clearly been done out as a dining pub. Probably good at that though judging by the numbers. Not completely given over to dining there is a nominal area to stand around the bar for "drinkers" or you can sit at the tables amongst the salt and vinegar fumes from the chips.

Didn't note anything "clinging on to tradition" or anything being "a little too much of a throwback" here re: previous poster, it must have been done out since. Pity it lost it.

From a dining or pub lunch perspective probably OK, from a "beer in the evening" perspective, poor. Decided on just halves on entering, wise move as the Morland Original and Everard's Equinox were chilled and tasteless. At least there was a choice though, and another pump clip had been turned round.

Luckily Steventon does have something for all tastes though; back to the North Star it is then.

Much improved inside, food now of a higher standard. New Landlord Peter good when he gets to know you. Morlands always excellent + Green King guset beers. 2 4 1 deal on meals Mon - Thur. The B&B rooms have been updated.

Pretty average even if its clinging on to tradition is refreshing. Friendly service and decent decor - especially on the outside, and yet, just a little too much of a throwback to be considered half decent.

Always good Morlands, freindly service. Food standard fare but plenty of it. Lanlord winner in the "New Landlord of the Year 2005" section. Much needed decor updating underway Summer 2006.
