I've visited the Maybush a number of times since it re-opened, although much work is still under way before the Grand Opening which I believe is May 7th, with more planned for after that. The ales have always been in great condition and often include offerings from local breweries such as Sticklegs and Harwich Town. Being a community owned pub now there is a friendly welcoming atmosphere, as well as a growing range of events (I've attended puzzle and quiz nights for example, but missed the bingo nights). The pub is great already, but when the refurbishment and kitchen are complete I imagine it will be better still.

A lot has changed - After a period of closure the Maybush reopened in february as a community owned venture. They are trying to put on a good selection of real ales every day, along with lagers, cider and stout on draught available, They are currently open from 6pm to midnight mon to fri, + midday to midnight sat & sun. No food other than crisps nuts etc yet, but we are hopeful of developing the service further. Thursday night have already seen quizzes, bingo and puzzle evenings with more planned for the future. Great prices too.

I see there are some very non-complementary reviews below. I'm house hunting in the area and have visited this pub twice over the last few days, on a Saturday afternoon and a Monday lunchtime. All I can say is that it is very friendly and welcoming.

It has apparently been under new ownership since Feb 2011 and my partner and I stuck up conversations with the landlady, her son and several others in the pub.

There seemed to be a good selection of ales on both tap and draught. There's no food, other than bar snacks. But apart from that, I couldn't fault it.
