This also is great, fabulous food, too much to eat, well prepared, may have to wait but warm convenient nice location takes many guests if you have a party and the drink supplies are good if a little overrun by the demand and the place can become crowded which probably speaks for itself. Only ever had to wait for a table for a long while once and you get good conversations by traditional elders who have connections who gather there for celebrations. Plenty of choice. Going again soon family birthday. My parents rarely ate out except the great egg chips bread and butter and tea at Stokes Croft Bristol in the 1950s at Christmas shopping and the odd Truck Drivers' cafe, so they missed a lot we enjoy. They make great meeting places, The Yacht at Torquay was one, but that has sadly demised. So if you like the A38 and want a break from eating the M5 dust with a scenic trip get off at Weston, Brent or Clevedon and take a trip through Yatton the winding lane to Churchill and Shipham Hill, see Cheddar, wander the Mendips and then eat at this restaurant, your stomach will love you for it. As my wife's brother said, it is becoming not so much the fishing and boats as a matter of the restaurants and food on holiday these later days, the best until last. Mike

Called in here for sandwiches and a drink after leaving Bristol Airport and on the way home to Devon.
The staff were pleasant but my wife's cheddar cheese sandwich was, she said, rubbish, and she left most of it.
I asked for a ham sandwich with no salad. It came with lettuce which was wet and half the sandwich had been put on top of the lettuce, which made it soggy.
The bread in both sandwiches was not fresh.
I will never call in there again.

It was better when it was The Load o' Mischief, but that was so long ago. . . . . . . . . . .
I don't think they did food at all then, but not many pubs did.
Bitter at 1/11 and crisps 3d a bag.

The first thing that I noticed when I walked in to this pub was a lectern with a sign attached saying Please wait here to be seated. I think that gives you some idea about the sort of establishment that this is, and its not likely to be somewhere that any of the regulars on this site are going to pop into for a decent ale, not least because every table in there seemed to be laid up for food. Not exactly welcoming if you're just popping in for a pint.

Im struggling a bit as to how to describe this pub. Its just got that bland, corporate feel to it that must be replicated in dozens of other similar chain pubs up and down the country. Theres nothing at all offensive about it, theres plenty of wood around, its all nicely carpeted and it was clean and tidy. Its just got no character whatsoever. Unsurprisingly, it seemed very quiet on a recent Saturday evening visit.

The food is on a permanent 2 for 1 offer, all day every day. This immediately alienates me as clearly you know that the food is only going to be worth, at best, half the marked price. I didnt study the menu, but did notice a large selection on a board just by the entrance, that you could peruse while you were waiting to be seated.

Beers on offer were Brakspears Oxford Gold and Pedigree. The solitary cider was Strongbow, unfortunately.
