user reviews of the Woolpack, Esholt

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

'Welcomed' by an unsmiling lady behind the bar, the pub lacked any atmosphere; the food service was painfully slow for all the tables, not just ours; the soup was tasteless; my wife's jacket potato was only partially edible as part was rock hard from being too long in the microwave and all the salad garnish was limp & the cucumber slices dried out. On commenting to the unsmiling lady there was no real apology and no offer of a refund. In this day and age, pub food which is just 'OK' is not really acceptable. The food and service here fell WELL below 'OK!! SUCH a disappointment considering what a potential gold mine this place should be. The only feature to commend this pub is the 'Emmerdale' connection, so if that's the reason you're visiting, maybe just use the loos!!

I first visited The Commercial as this pub was originally called back in the early seventies round about the time that Emmerdale started using it, over the years I visited quite often it was always a nice little pub. I hadn't visited since the late nineties and with a bit of nostalgia in my veins I visited about two weeks ago. I wish I hadn't what a hole this place has become, if the landlords are re-decorating or have redecorated as mentioned in previous comment then their idea of a colour scheme has to be seen, Stark white lights, a hotch potch of non matching chairs and tables this place is like a tea shop that happens to sell beer, what a great shame. The only redeeming feature was that I had one of the best pints of Landlord I have had in years. Avoid like the plague until somebody says it is a proper pub again

The outlet has been taken over by a Management company with managers Phil & Mandy Waters at the helm, they are introducing a new colour scheme and extensive home cooked traditional food.

The Woolpack is currently closed as the landlord has left.

I'm surprised there are no reviews of this pub yet, as it must be very popular with tourists, and as it's currently rated 2/10 from two reviewers it would be interesting to know why they disliked it.
In case you didn't know, it's famous as the original Woolpack from Emmerdale, although for filming purposes it has now been reconstructed on a set elsewhere. Don't expect to recognise the inside though.
Seems quite a decent pub to me with a few tables out the front and a reasonable choice of beers. Food was popular, although we didn't try it ourselves.
In spite of it's fame it seems to be quite a locals pub. Nice spot to stop for a beer.
