Returned yesterday (again in walking gear) to sit in the front garden of this very busy, food-led pub. The hake risotto was excellent and the quality of the beer wasn't far behind. I stuck to the Hooky although Goff's "Norman Knight" and Prescott's Hill Climb were also on sale.

Now the outlet for the Stratford upon Avon Brewery, this seems to be one of those pubs where you may have to time your visit carefully - many of the tables were "reserved" and there is very little space given over for vertical drinking. Fortunately, Harry, Freddie and their exceptionally loud mother were just leaving as we arrived at 4pm today dog in tow and it was an ideal time to visit for just a drink whilst dressed in walking gear. 3 beers from the SUA Brewery (I tried the Dark Star Porter and Malty Pig Bitter which were both good) as well as guest Hooky and Gun Dog's Chilly Dog. Cider was Wyld Wood Organic.

The brewery is now The Patriot Brewery - and a fine one it is as well. The Kiwi is superb, the Nelson excellent and the Mild magnificent.

The guests where Reverend James and a Hooky Best - flash a CAMRA membership card and you'll get 10% off the cost; a CAMRA benefit I've never sen before.

All in all - and I checked this with my wife and teen-aged kids - this is the best pub we've been in for years.

The beer in this pub is great, they have a Micro Brewery on site. Unfortunately we also ate at the pub. When I dared to complain that my steak was overdone and the replacement arrived after everyone else had finished, I was summoned to the kitchen and shouted at by the chef. Up to this point my family was having a great time.

10/10 for the beer and bar staff
0/10 for the food and the Chef

unfortunatley my overall score is based on the latter.

The wizard brewery made this visit rather special. Excellent beer with friendly staff and a good stop for fellow walkers.
