user reviews of the Sportsman, Bristol

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Been going to The Sportsman for over 25 years now and it's still good. Beer & cider always in great nick. Not to everyone's taste with the big screen TV's and pool tables but put that aside if it's not your cup of tea and you will still enjoy it.

The best pub in Bristol...one of the best in the country!!!!!!

Good ale (I had Sharp's Doom Bar), plenty of comfy sofas but a bit raucous on a Friday night due to large groups of men - almost a woman-free zone! Large TVs permanently on some kind of sport.

Loads of pool tables, a great selection of beers (by that, I mean real ale), plenty of sport on the TV and best of all, a massive pizza for 5. Top notch and the classic Life on Mars decor only adds to the charm. Long may it stay this way.

This is the greatest male pub I have ever visited! Huge, huge building with 13 very good pool tables (and proper pool cues rather than standard rubbish)Also a giant TV for the football and always packed for big England games. Also has a juke box with a great mix of music, from classic hits to funky to indie to dance meaning a great sound track at all times. Also cheap drinks and great service. Downside is there is nothing for your lady here at all (the decor hasnt changed by the looks of it since 1970) but this place is legendary with all men in Bristol. Went to uni there 8 years ago, and still now make my twice a year trip to the Mecca of testorone.
