user reviews of the Dog Inn, Whalley

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

We found the Dog to be a nicer pub than the Swan over the road. Music was being played fairly loud. But most of the clientele seemed to be enjoying the '60's selection. There is one main room with a central circular bar. A small room beyond holds a pool table and beyond that is a small walled garden. Bank Top Sweeney's, Brightside Maverick IPA, Bath Spa & Gem, Fallons Liz's Bitter & Moorhouses Black Panther were the beers. A Ribble Valley Gold cider sign could be seen behind the bar. But the barman looked a bit clueless when I enquired about it. Not to worry, I was to find it in my next pub! A fairly good pub.

A decent choice of cask ales in a traditional style pub, the food was good too. Apart from somewhat chaotic bar service this pub is highly recommended.

Old rambling open plan bar on Whalley's main drag near the junction of the Accrington Road. Pleasant enough staff thugh the locals were a bit old school Emmerdale. There were a few ales on (possibly too many for the custom). I tried a pint of Bank Top Red Beard which I tihnk is an acquired taste.

Of the four very fine pubs at the centre of Whalley village, the Dog is defintely the best for the range of beers on offer. Six handpumps, serving an ever-changing mix of beers from (mainly North-Western) breweries. That said, on today's visit the range was slightly less adventurous than it has been of late - Copper Dragon Black Gold, Moorhouse Pride of Pendle, Grays Hunny Pot, Bank Top Old Slapper, and both Lions Roar and Treacle Stout from Ossett - but at 2.40 a pint, whatever strength the beer, who's complaining?
