Not sure about the Wetherspoons story - if you look at the property details from the agent there is a ban on the purchaser using the site for the sale of draft beers/lagers so it wont stay as a pub....and with the electric line running across the corner of the site they're limited to the height of any building they can put on there. Current bets it'll be a residential development or a tesco local or something.

And no beer / larger means that ANYTHING that goes there has got to be better than the din that used to come out of there on Karaoke nights / 'live band' nights and the noise from the drunken idiots at kicking out time. Good riddance!

No closed as of 19th July. Not sure if it will reopen as a pub or be demolished for flats, Rumour and it is only rumour says it will be Weatherspoons and reopens in 6-8 weeks but who knows. Now boarded up and fenced off...

I visited the pub lunchtime Friday 24th April 09 for a couple of pints (needed a couple of drinks after an interview earlier on that morning), it was quiet except for a few local, bar staff friendly. The landlady came across to intoduce herself as I was sitting on my own & had a chat about the pub etc & said they were going to have live music etc, it maybe a large local pub but I'm sure the landlady (Diane?) will make sure you are made welcome.

Ignore the sign that say it's up for sale, it may look closed from the outside but there is a very competent landlady who is going to make many changes there, so give it a try & I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised by the welcome you receive.

I will be returning for a evening visit in the near future so check it out again re live music

Scary place ! i agree with Tods comment - its definitely NOT for strangers !! massive pub but thoroughly underused by the management, sitting on a goldmine and doesnt seem to realise it ! they need to oust the kids drinking alcopops and generate a better atmosphere for a start

Large ground floor area inside; you'll not look out of place wearing a football shirt. Friday night is Karaoke night! personally.. i don't much care for sushi..! Nearest rival pub = 'District Arms' (4/10). The 'Dog' gets the bone, every time..!! TJ
