I've not been back since my last (long ago) stop, but I now suspect that "Lekker" meant the George at Gurney Slade, rather than this sad place... or perhaps not. Anyway I suspect that "Lekker" doesn't visit many pubs, if either this or the George in Gurney Slade is that good for her.

Where's this George then?
I know this place used to be known as the Jubilee, but George?
By the way, I've never had a decent pint of beer at this pub, and that's what this site is about is it not?

Not inpressed with this place. Agree on things what 'Jeezii' said about the Instant Mash .. two of my friends on our table had meals with mash in and we could all easily tell it was instant mash what was used to make the food. 'Lekker' regarding your question to 'Jeezii' asking about how he/she managed to get into the kitchen. Our table was sat out the back of the restaurant and there are two doors where you can clearly see into the kitchen, if i remember rightly there is one door near to the 'out-back' toilets and also as you walk into the back room. Our table also noticed the loud noice of shouting and swaering coming from the kitchen, surely thats not to nicest thing you want to hear while eating your meal?!!!?!! Working in the restaurant business myself i would prefer my staff to have manners and look/dress smart, i found with the waiting staff here they looked abit 'dirty' and 'untidy' also what made our table laugh was as we walked into the pub the chef was stood out in the bar with his dirty chef 'whites' on. Personally i dont think thats a very good impression! We will not be going back.

Stopped by briefly, but not impressed (though it clearly has its fans). Fairly ordinary, perhaps decorated by someone who is colour-blind. I can't really agree with "lekker's" cheerleading for the place, but those who were eating seemed to be enjoying their meals--more than the people who just wanted a pint were enjoying the drinks.

What a lovely and colourful place to eat - not bright orange - but more along the lines of the Mediteranean colours - so what? the countryside of Oakhill is able to boast about a good place to eat, and thank goodness the colour doesn't affect the taste of ones food. We have moved on from the dreary days of grey stone and brick - just like we have moved on from the memories of Butlins Holiday camps in the 60's!
Be adventurous - enjoy great meals at the George - you'll not regret the experience. Glad to see "theme evenings" are popular too. Well done to management AND friendly staff. Must be good if you have soooo many connoisseurs that call in to eat often. Judge not, but first look at how full the car park is - can't ALL be critics?
