Quiet pub in a lovely rural village setting. There is a choice of two bars on entering. The Avon Bar in the left seemed mainly for diners. We plumped for the Valley Bar on the right-hand side, which seemed to be more for drinking and was where the locals seemed to hang out. There is a nice garden at the rear. Butcombe Best Bitter, Courage Best & Sharps Doom Bar were the 3 real ale choices with a Brains SA clip turned around. The keg cider was Long Ashton Ashton Press.

Proper pub with a friendly welcome. No quibble about serving eight of us even though we arrived after last orders had been called, and they were in no hurry to throw us out immedaitely after time. Beer range limited to Courage Best and Butcombe and we didn't eat, but I'll be quite happy to go back. Handy for the canal towpath walk/cycleway.

Stayed in the hotel up the lane and didnt fancy the over priced tat that they sold. The Hop Pole Inn does excellent food and they are substantial portions. This is a proper pub, staff were very friendly and even though they were rushed off thier feet they made us very welcome and were superb in every way. I would whole heartedly recommend it to everyone and will deinitely be back the next time I visit the area.

We stayed nearby in a lovely hotel on our way to Longleat Safari Park. We are pub and restaurant owners ourselves and our children are well used to eating out, in our establishment and other eateries. Upon entering the pub we were not made very welcome. We were not even greeted by the woman standing behind the bar. We were told to bring the kids to the back of the pub. Never have we encountered such an unfriendly manner. The lady behind the bar, we thought was maybe having a bad night. We sat in the back for 10 to 15 minutes and nobody came near us with menus. We went to the bar to ask for somebody to take an order. It was at this stage we found out that the man also was as rude as the woman who we initially encountered. They have no manner whatsoever. My husband made a comment that a dog would be better treated and believe it or not less than 5 minutes after he said it, a dog entered the pub. Can I say anymore. A dog in a pub where food is served! We got better food on Blackpool Seafront. This is the first time that we have ever commented on anywhere we have ever eaten and believe me when I say we have travelled extensively and worldwide. Doing this at almost 11 o'clock at night while sitting in our hotel room wasn't something we envisaged doing on our holiday. We felt it was important for other people to know. As we arrived at the entrance to the hotel, we had seen this rather quaint pub and felt it might be a novel way to pass the evening. The food was very disappointing. Beware travellers - if you have young children, then this is not the place to visit. Keep going or eat in your hotel.

Found this pub when doing a canal trip, great pub with good selection of beers, food was great. bar staff were excellent a special thank you to Pauline who lent us an umbrella and torch to enable us to get back to our barge without too much difficulty, one of us still managed to fall into canal, but thankfully was OK. called back into the pub on journey back to return the items. big thanks to Pauline and staff great pub hope to see you again.
