If you find yourself otherwise stranded in any of the hotels around Pride Park, then believe me, it absolutely is worth getting a taxi here and back. Really, it is.

Yours truly doffs his hat, bows, and awards nine-out-of-ten.

The Royal Oak was the first of three pubs I tried in this village. Not only was it the best pub in the village, in my opinion, it was my favourite of 10 in Derbyshire. Be careful with the opening hours, as it does close in the afternoon during the week. I managed to get there just before it was due to close. There are a number of rooms, some set up for dining. Service was friendly and there was a good ale selection - Burton Bridge High Spy, Bass, Falstaff Slender Man, Cottage MM Norman's Conquest & Derby The Maltster. There was a real cider in a jug in the fridge, which was from Three Cats. Recommended.

Great food, great beer, reasonably child friendly. 9/10

The Cross Keys is a perfectly decent, but smaller establishment nearby too, and I found the ale there on form.

What with the White Swan, Ockbrook residents are pretty well-served

A mysterious pub in a way. A factual description of all its attributes would not impress greatly, yet it is much more than the sum of those, and I found it worked really well.

Real ales are well kept, and though not a gastropub the food easily meets expectations.

The in-places-utilitarian 1960s/70s features that remain add a quirky interest. The atmosphere and service are great. In fine weather the village location makes sitting outside a pleasure.
