Just stayed 2 nights in Hawkshead so had plenty of opportunity to check out the 4 Inns all within 3 minutes walk or less.
Top of my list was the Sun Inn with 3/4 cask ales in good form including Loweswater Gold and Jennings Cumberland Ale.
The staff and locals are friendly and there is a cosy feel to the place with the log fire, pool table and darts.
My second choice was the Red Lion followed by the Kings Arms and Queens Head.

Actually stayed in this room for a night this week an d have to say I cant fault the place or the staff. The ale and food was in great condition and reasonably priced, the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and the room was great, but this isnt Trip Advisor so we shall skip that part. Of the four pubs in the village, this place and the Red Lion are the best two.

Couple of well kept Jennings beers on, shame their interior refit lacks the charm this old building could have

Wasn't overenthused about this pub despite some good previous reviews. Staff weren't particularly helpful at all and the food (which we didn't try in the end, due to a 30 min wait) seemed to be at usual, overpriced, Hawkshead prices.

The Sun Inn is a 17th Century Inn on the edge of Hawkshead village. The beer range varies, with up to three guest ales on offer. On my last visit, the Taylors Landlord was in good form. The pub has an open plan bar area and there is a nice sitting-out area in front of the pub, which overlooks the village and hills beyond. A good pub in a village of good pubs.
