First of 10 Essex pubs sampled on a very hot Wednesday evening. 3 ales were on - George's Victory Ale, Brains The Rev James & Sharps Doom Bar. Ciders were Westons Twist Raspberry & Old Rosie. Although I thought £2.33 for half was bit excessive. The interior was light and airy, which made it quite a refreshing escape from the heat.

Good food, great ale but it would be nice to see a larger selection. Staff are friendly, especially like Amy, cocky and full of banter but I like that! I would recomend this place, good for sport and music on the odd occastion.

I hate it when pubs get too cliquey, especially when the clique seems to be the staff versus the clientele.
This certainly seems to have become the case the last few times I’ve visited the Victory.
It’s a shame, as it’s still a half-decent local, but I’ve spent one too many times now waiting for the staff to finish their chats before serving, tolerating a forced lack of “please” or “thank you” and, on one occasion, having one particular little charmer announce to her colleagues, “Are we going to let this one use a credit card?”
In an era when dozens of pubs close each month, surely the chains should be beating their staff into submission over basic customer service and politeness. Apparently not at the Victory. John Barras take heed.

Haven't been here for a while but the place seems to continue on serving the outer perimeter of the Rochford/Ashingdon community. I've ate and drank in here - the ale was good last time out and the regulers fine. Worth a drop by.

Excellent refurb job.

The pub now looks and feels like a friendly place, as opposed to Racist Pete's personal fiefdom. The beer is well-kept, and for the time being at least, the bogs appear to be working. I'll continue to wear leather shoes in there just in case, though.

Well done. A huge improvement.
