A late C17/early C18 marlstone dog-friendly Hook Norton pub with nice internal features such as a parquet floor, wooden panelling, large open fireplaces and leaded glazing as well as a friendly landlord (and pickled eggs). As the spiritual home of the Adderbury Morris Men, they had their own beer named Laugh Sing Dance which had been brewed at the Hook Norton Brewery specially for the village's Day of Dance last month and it was in very good condition albeit at £5.60 a pint. The real cider was Peacemaker from Napton. Licensees have been in post since last June and were awarded 4th place in North Oxfordshire's Pub of the Year 2025 by CAMRA. paul_d102 - 5 May 2025 16:58 |
Pleasant village boozer with well-kept Hook Norton real ale. Unpretentious basic food menu. Proper country pub - shows it can still be done! Mike_Oxford - 31 Jan 2018 11:56 |
Top notch pub for beer - my pint of Hooky Dark was the most enjoyable pint I've had in some time. Interior is pleasingly old fashioned, but the ambience would have benefited hugely had the fire been lit. The Sunday lunches did not match the quality of the food - tough beef and gloopy packet gravy spoiling matters. Nonetheless, pubs are about beer, and this is done very well here. thomashenry - 8 Nov 2010 10:28 |
Pleasant country pub in a nice village. We were greeted on our Sunday lunchtime visit with the sight of morris dancers outside in the street. Many people were outside drinking and watching the merriment. Inside there are 3 comfortable drinking areas. The gents are outside at the rear. 4 Hook Norton beers were on - Hooky Dark, Hooky Gold, Hooky Bitter and the seasonal beer Flagship. blue_scrumpy - 26 Oct 2010 20:08 |
Fabulous village pub. Comfortable sofas. Superb Hook Norton beers. And seems to be something going on in the pub every night creating an excellent atmosphere. Would love this to be my local. Well worth visiting. foamy - 2 Sep 2010 13:56 |
