user reviews of the Half Moon Inn, Midhurst

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

We stopped here for a late lunch, becuase it advertised food served until 4pm and it looked very popular. Inside the pub was fairly basic and to be honest I didn't hold out much hope for the food, but I couldn't have been more wrong. The food was excellent, large servings, the vegetables were not overcooked and the meat was tender, and not overpriced. This time I was on soft drinks due to driving, so cannot comment on the beer, but highly recommended for food.

Came here with my girlfriend yesterday evening (7 Jan) for something to eat and drink, before driving back to the smoke. See my previous post. Corrections from my visit last Tuesday thoughit is the Hunters chicken and the meals were 8.25 each as opposed to 8.75. Not quite sure where I got Hanker from and the 8.75 price per meal?!? I was probably quite lackadaisical Tuesday, a bit like the Charlton performance away at Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup Saturday. Hanker also rhymes with something I would like to call some of the Charlton players, with the word "overpaid" in front of it.

Anyway, I had the Hunters chicken yesterday and it was gloriously delicious, also like the spotted dick and custard (3.75) I had afterwards. My girlfriend had rice, curry and nan bread, which she also enjoyed. The meals along with a pint and diet coke came to 19.87, excluding the spotted dick. Excellent friendly service again in a relaxed atmosphere. Probably the best food I have ever eaten in a pub. Probably.

Came here with my girlfriend Tuesday lunchtime (2 Jan) before heading back to London to watch Charlton play at Arsenal. I was driving back to London, so cannot comment on the drinking side, but the food (Hanker chicken with cheese, bacon, chips and salad) I had was absolutely fantastic. My girlfriend equally enjoyed her scampi, chips and peas. Though the meals were 8.95 each - relatively expensive if being honest - in my case I feel it was worth every penny.

The polished wooden dcor in this spacious pub is pleasant, while the bar staff were efficient and friendly. The fireplace and bookshelf, moreover, help to provide a warm and relaxed atmosphere. It was mainly pensioners present the time we were here, but the place was not busy.

I imagine The Half Moon Inn to be a great place to have a Sunday roast. Located on the A272, however, it is a wee bit out of the way from the other Midhurst boozers in the town centre. Yet if you (or someone else) are prepared to drive and sacrifice heavy drinking, then it is well worth a visit to sample the impressive selection of (presumably delicious) food.
