This is a little gem off the beaten track in the centre of Lincoln. I went in on Christmas eve this year for the first time having lived in Lincoln since 2000 and was amazed at how good it was. Three ish regular mainstream ales, plus two guests all very well kept. Friendly staff, two rooms - a nice quiet lounge and a bar area. All in all a cracking pub to visit that it off the beaten track. Not far to walk to other pubs in the area uphill (Victoria, Strugglers) or down hill (Tap and Spile, Green Dragon which has own microbrewery). Try it!

Went in this pub for he first time a few weeks ago and was amazed - how could I not have been in here despite having lived in Lincoln all my life?! Great watering hole that always has a few guest beers on - non of your Batemans rubbish, no, but Spitfire, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Bombardier etc. Also stocks Piper's posh crisps - better than greasy Walkers.

Landlord has had this pub for years and is an amazing chap who makes everyone feel welcome. Traditional pub that has a lounge to the left of the entrance and the bar to the right, the latter incorporating a floodlit dartboard. Customers made up of locals and a few students, with a lot of the latter now living in this part of God's Backyard. Pub could do with a lick of paint but these types are few and far between nowadays and should be cherished.

Overall, a nice pub - well worth a visit or three.

Just to add that on a recent visit I see that a rather tacky skylight at the back of the bar area has now been replaced and tha area renovated, and Voila! Yes, at last there is a nice bright light in the gents' WC! (Still no lock, though) All of which makes the place even better. Beers are largely as they were but the Spitfire was downgraded to a guest ale at the time of my visit.

My dear old local when I'm staying in the Lincoln area. Run by fantastic people and a great selection of real on tap which features a guest every month. Victor's comments are spot on, this is one of the most cosy pubs I think I've ever been to in my life and even when I leave Lincoln for good in 2 or so months I will return to this pub for years to come (and the city of course!)
