user reviews of the Polite Vicar, Basford

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Depends on which staff are working as to whether the service and food is either very good or terrible. One to give a miss, there are too many good pubs out there.

Very rude staff, actually going out of their way to avoid saying "please" and "thank you". Poor food - veg was clearly dated (yellow brocolli, brown lettuce, uncrunchy peppers). Dirty glasses - of 4 drinks ordered, all glasses (pints, and wine glasses) were dirty, with smears/grease/fingerprints, and in one case residual beer caked onto the inside of the glass. Overall, a very poor experience - avoid at all costs!

for a new-comer it is probably OK. Be honest any local in any pub in Stoke could excite a new-comer with oatcakes. What! A pub named after a living self-publicist is sad in itself ! But the most recent comment gives a fairer preeption to outsiders

The Menu says:
1 Find Table
2 Remember table number
3 Order food at order point, and order drinks at the bar
4. Leave the rest to us.

We ordered food - served warm on cold plates, with a very sparing garnish. We then had to fetch our own condiments & cutlery.

So much for "Leave the rest to us."

My colleague bitingly suggested "Leave the restaurant" would have been more appropriate!

I LIVED IN STOKE FOR THE ALMOST TWO YEARS AND YOU COULD SAY THE P.V WAS MY LOCAL AS I LIVED AND WORKED THERE AS BAR STAFF. I WAS FULL TIME AND THE CUSTOMERS WHO VISITED THE PUB WHERE BRILLIANT I THOUGHT THEY WERE KIND AND FUNNY AND INTROCUCED ME TO OATCAKES. THE PUB ITSELF IS LOVELY AND WARM VERY HOMELY AND CLEAN
