Traditional pub which presumably derives much of its trade from the adjacent caravan park. As it wasn't holiday season, perhaps that's why there was just one real ale on sale in the basic bar area. However, my pint of Crafty Brewing's Loxhill Biscuit was in fine condition.

Our first stop on a trip to Powys was this pub on the border with England. Tucked away just off the main road, I'm not sure how much passing trade this pub gets. But, we were the only customers, as the landlord was doing his ironing, whilst watching the rugby World Cup. Just the one real ale was on. This was Brakspear Oxford Gold. Apparently turnover had been slow of late. But the 11 real ciders easily made up for that. The selection was Lilley's Rhubarb Cider, Pineapple Cider, Cherries & Berries & Crazy Goat, Dudda's Tun Elderflower Cider & Apricot Cider, Gwynt y Ddraig Autumn Magic & Farmer's Pride, Abrahall's Clementine Perry, Harry's Prince Harry's Ginger Cider & Sandford Orchards Hangy Down. Two new ones for me here. So, I had both. The pub lacked atmosphere on our visit. But, I was more than happy with the ciders.

Re opened as the banners stated! Now a free house with two real ales, last night Cloud 9 from the 6 Bells and green King's Bonkers Conkers but was told these will change. Place is now clean and comfortable but not fussy. No food as yet but will follow in a few weeks. Just as well, the place was packed, just about room to slide a sandwich to the mouth, still opening night expected to be so! Talking about the sandwiches if the meals turn out, as well as these great hope for the future.

Good News.....this pub will reopen on August 28th at 19.00 hrs according to banners appearing in Churchstoke Village! Rumour has it that Dave Powell (Sedge) ex The Miners at Priests Weston has it. If he keeps the Beer as good here as he did there should be worth a visit or two. Will up date and rate when open.
