Thwaite's pub that advertises on its Facebook page as being open until 1am on a Saturday night. However they wouldn't serve me shortly after 11:30pm. So no beerintheevening means a 1/10 from me for this place.

A decent Thwaites pub. Well kept Wainwright and decent food specials - on a Friday night, we went for the 16oz ramp with sides that you can help yourself too. Worth a visit.

Popped into Penrith en route home on 28/2/11 for a spot of lunch, saw a sign outside of the General Wolfe advertising Soup/Pannini/Chips for 3.95 so the wife and I called in.

It was without doubt the worst food that I have eaten anywhere (this includes my 22 years in HM forces where the food is supposedly of poor quality!)

I will start with the soup (mine was pea and mint) this was actually mushy peas with 4 croutons. My Wife had Italian tomato, this tasted like a cheap jar of pasta sauce.

The pannini's where supposed to be ham and tomato (the ham seemed to be off) and sweet chilli chicken, Both were cold and had never been warmed. Oh, and the chips had obviously been bought at a local chippy. (they were edible) Both meals were left uneaten but no compalint could be made as the barmaid had vanished. GIVE IT A MISS.

Although I personally prefer places that offer some real Ale's, not everybody does, so this place does exactly what it sets out to do.

It's a pub thats well placed in the Centre of town that can catch tourists that have been caught in the rain or those wanting a quick bite to eat.

And you could do a lot worse for food. We had the vegetarian combo to share, and it was a delight to see a bit of thought going into a veggie dish in the form of Cheese and Brocolli parcels instead of just piles of chips and breaded mushrooms (which were also present to keep philestines happy!).

Couldn't comment what it would be like in the evening as we just popped in for lunch when it started raining ;-) but in all a great place for a lunch time bite.
