Went to the Bell Bar and Bistro for a birthday meal and was throughly disapointed! Friends had told me the place was not worth a visit, I wish I had taken there advice! Was put off on arrival as we could see the chefs and who was later our waitress smoking outside. We were then ignored by bar staff once inside, who clearly found reading the paper and smooching with her boyfriend more interesting than serving us. Once upstairs the decor was nice however restaurant lacked atmosphere. The menu seemed very nice however what was served to us was a different story! The waitress stank of smoke and clearly did not want to serve us. She was miserable and very unattentive. The food was cold and took forever, which seemed strange as there was only one other table in the restaurant. I will now be joining my friends in not reccomending the bell bar and bistro.

We went to the pub/bistro with a group of friends, the whole experience of the evening lacked atmosphere, staff totally unfriendly. When ordering the food one of the group ordered Confit Duck & Black Cherry Terrine, to be advised that this not available today, and was offered a poor quality shop bought pate, that had seen better days!! Then when ordereing the breads, the waiter had no knowledge of what was available. The Lamb shank was luke warm, the pork was burnt at the bottom, and the pheasant was very dry. The Pan fried Seabass ideally should have bean seared to give a good crispy skin, but was poached and was tasteless. Deserts was as bad as the main course, we had Chocolate & Cherry Roulade which was heavy and minus the cherries!! icecream was whipped cream.
The most attractive thing about this restaurant was the decor, which could have been enhanced by subtle background music. The ambience was non existent because we were the only people there. I believe this Bistro is trying to hard and should stick to some traditional basic dishes. On departing the Bistro, we encountered our waitor, smoking his heart out, outside the premises on full view of al!!

Paid a visit to this pub with my 10 year old daughter for lunch and the lady behind the bar could not have been more welcoming. We ordered our lunch and sat out in the garden to wait.......10 minutes and the food was there.

Lovely fresh food, good prices and a lovely pint of Youngs best.

Well worth a visit.

Fantastic new menu, wonderful pub garden, fantastic friendly staff that make you feel welcome as soon as you walk through the door and in general just a great atmosphere.
Must be under new management since the last time I was in.
Delicious food you could really tell it was home cooked, strongly recommend the fish and chips where as my husband had the liver and bacon which we were told was their delicacy and their totally right best gravy in the village !!!!
'Great experience'

(Dont know what the other comments are about but with names like Essexbabe and Danbury dog..... and there complaining about Chavs)

didnt have as bad an experiance as the last reviewer, BUT, i know what you mean about the CHAVS in the Bell. Not a place for children at all, we spent the whole time waiting for a fight to break out. Food was ok, but that was it, OK. For the total price of the bill we expected more.
