user reviews of the Leigh Arms, Openshaw

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This pub is called The Legh arms not Leigh and is in openshaw not Gorton as it faces the old openshaw college campus which is now called Mancat. A pub that's pretty dead during the week unless some lads from the college nip in for a quick pint during dinner. One ale on when I went in but it doesn't seem to be what the locals drink because it tasted a bit warm. Not far from Ashburys train station but is easier by the 219 bus.

Tried this pub after a visit to Manchester City's ground on Saturday. It was probably the worst of 10 I tried on the day. It was fairly crowded with a mixture of City and United fans, with the latter there to view their team playing on the TV. Only one real ale was on - Batemans Three Sheets. The locals didn't seem particularly friendly. For a better experience, I recommend the Grove on Ashton New Road (not listed on here) where you'll get a pint in friendlier surroundings.

Dave and Tracy are very friendly landlords. This pub's clientel are largely Man City supporters. Sadly, real ale is not normally available out of the football season. Even in the season, it often runs out soon after a match day and does not come on stream till later in the week. However, when it is available, you won't get a better pint anywhere.

I have complained to the landlord about the intermittent supply. I urge all ale lovers to complain also, as there isn't any ale available for a wide radius. Yours Marie

No real ales on offer despite big sign outside stating former Camra pub of year.

Actually the Legh Arms. A brilliant pub, worthy winner of local CAMRA awards. Multi-roomed, welcoming to all (had a paddling pool for children in the garden), sensible range of quality beer, and the best corned beef sandwich I've had. Just realised I may have made this sound dreadful ! A gem.
