user reviews of the Broadgate Exchange, Broadgate

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Was told this pub is in Appold Street, so wandered up and down for ages before some kindly soul informed me that it's "up the steps opposite the All Bar One... and by the way, it's terrible".
The White Horse's website boasted that it has four real ales on tap. When I arrived there was only Young's, and that didn't taste great with a scummy head.
Later in the evening, Doombar and Lighthouse (Adnams) came on when the Young's disappeared, but still not a great selection.
Extortionate too - a round of four drinks (Young's, two Peronis and a Guinness) came to £18.20.
Place was stuffed full of loud City types and, coupled with the music blaring out, was difficult to hear people at the other end of the table, despite us not being a small group.
As for the pub, it's pretty gastro inside with trendy mismatching chairs and sofas and lots of wood. Big bar along the right-hand wall as you come in. Long and split-level.
Some sanctuary in the toilets, which were quieter and clean so one point for that.
However, having mistakenly visited the nearby Flying Horse trying to find this place and seen what a good pub should be like, made the experience even more depressing.
Obviously does a roaring trade from people with money to burn, and if you want food then there seems to be an extensive menu. Definitely not for me, though.

Closed and re-opened under new management/ownership. Now the White Horse.

Any one been to the Christmas Karaoke in this place! It rocks. Last year was the 3rd time I've been and always had a blast. Does get a bit busy in summer, but so does everyone in the area, at least the beers are cold.

Went in here dreading what I might find. Pub looks like your typical ground floor of an office type boozer. Ordered a pint of Adnams which I expected to be rubbish but it wasnt that bad. Nice to stand outside of on a sunny day. Been to worse.

Excellent place if you can sit on the wall outside while someone else goes and gets your beer for you (I believe these are called "runners" on trading floors). Bit of a kip inside but after the 10th pint it makes very little difference.

The milf bar. Great place. Although the toilets break a lot, the Stella tastes off, the food always comes wrong, bit expensive. But it's the milf bar and the quiz machine is brilliant.

Average in all respects the only time it's worth drinking here is on a warm summer's day or evening as Exchange Square is one of the better outdoor drinking locations in the City.

Problem is it tends to get rammed at these times and getting served is a bit of a problem.

Tried the Stella last night ... no bubbles !! In fact all the lagers were flat . Usual mosh for a Summer's night . Mr Lash is spot on with all his comments AVOID AVOID AVOID !!

Crikey! Mr Lash has quite strong feelings about this one. Just in case anyone was thinking of going there don't be too put off by his comments. This pub is just a run of the mill normal drinking establishment which serves average food for a reasonable price. It can be difficult getting a drink at 1pm on a Friday but where isn't it? It doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and it's far less pretentious than some of the other pubs in the area.

Really does not deserve such a low rating. It would be nice for it to be refurbed, but it's not tatty. Yep, it's pricey, but it's in the middle of the city so it's going to be. But it's a LOT cheaper than local places such as Corney & Barrow and no where near as pretentious. It's a perfectly decent pub and given that it's usually very busy there must be a lot of people who think so.

There was an entirely fair comment on here yesterday from a former member of staff at this pub which illustrated the infinite depths to which this total dive had sunk. Rubbish beer, rubbish food, rubbish staff, just a big, steaming pile of turd. The Exchange sums up everything that can go wrong with a pub. The comment has now been deleted. Shame.

Mr. Lash has summed this place up brilliantly!

The Directors and the Bombardier are the worst kept pints I have come across for a long time!

I have had a fair few arguments with the unhelpful staff. I was almost attacked by this very ugly looking bar maid.

Because of its location it can be very packed. Lots of suits...

It makes me angry to just recall this disgrace of a pub....

Needs a bloody good refurbishment and the beer can be mixed quality but does have a 2 for 1 on meals at lunchtime. At least it serves pints unlike the other outlets in Exchange Square (Corney & Barrow and Futures (AKA Davey's)).

Unbelievably bad. Atmosphere of an aircraft hangar and food that they would be criticised for serving at 25,000 feet. Poorly kept, overpriced beer (I guess given the location they think people won't notice..) and generally populated by interns from the local banks who don't know any better. Despite the lengthy bar if there are more than about 10 people in there it takes an age to get served. It can be OK as a place to buy (bottled)drinks when it's sunny outside, but the prices and queues are massively off putting. Avoid like the proverbial plague.
