This Wetherspoons is called the Tivoli (and has been since at least 2010) as JP71 visited then. Beers tried from Wibblers and Orkney were fine but a lack of lighter beers available. Most were traditional bitters. A pleasant 'spoons even when busy on steak night.

Seems like I'm the only visitor - don't know how to update name to the Tivoli. Exceptionally consistent spoons, with beer range of 10 including the better regionals such as Nethergate, Oak leaf and Burton Bridge. Good mix of custom.

The Tivoli continues to offer a good range of interesting beers, at average to good quality (doubt it will trouble the Beer Guide). Staff are exceptionally friendly and service is quick.

Sorry - should read "very good example of the chain"

Tivoli is a very good chain - excellent beer (Moorhouses and Jennings excellent), friendly with quick service, although rather quiet for a Spoons.

This is indeed now a Wetherspoon's, known as The Tivoli. It's got wi-fi and big screens usually showing muted Sky News with subtitles. The phone number's now 01223 310450. It's the usual Wetherspoon's fare: cheap cheerful food, plus a huge range of competitively priced drinks - unfortunately occasionally attracting a clientele more wanting cheap alcohol than interested in personal hygiene or finding somewhere to live that night. That said, the staff are good, keeping an eye on things, the ales are excellent, and the wine list good as well - although occasionally the red's served a bit cold. Interesting local ales, some not often seen, and some sourced from much further afield. I've only been Sunday lunchtimes so far, so not sure what its night-time customers or atmosphere are like.

Specifically, it is to become a Wetherspoon's pub -- as I predicted nearly two years ago, see below.

According to the Cambridge News it has just re-opened and intends to be a live music venue again. It was not a "pub" in the past, as it was much more a "venue" with poor offerings for drink. It was never a place to go for a pint, though.

Closed about 6 months ago. It won't be missed -- it was a terrible bar (I wouldn't dignify it with the term 'pub': No real ales.)

It is currently sporting a large 'To Let' sign. Weatherspoon's, are you listening? It's your sort of place.

Unbelievably dull, and incredibly quiet, even with the England game on. The dullest beer offering you'll find anywhere. Are the Screams chain still going ?
mtaylor40 - 6 Sep 2006 23:19
A rather horrible scream pub all-told. I once went there in anticipation of meeting friends, before seeing that there must have been about 500 people shouting to hear themselves over crap music, and I just walked out and went next-door.

Not too bad when I went in during the day, though, as they have table football and giant connect 4, which was fun with the pub empty. Still a pretty poor choice of beer, as with every other scream pub though.

Always been a bit of a favourite of mine outside the main centre of cambridge. Normally a cheap night which can always get a bit messy! Not for anyone who's looking for traditional!!

A bit dull really. It was meant to be a good place to go, but apart from a few pool tables, it wasn't much. Good staff, goodish service, adn in goodish surroundings, but a poor range of produce, and not a lot to offer really.

Sorry? Can't hear you. It's loud, proud and rather nasty. Go next door unless you want to surrounded by, well, never mind.
