The major revamp has cleaned it up, it has plenty of beer range but not bitter, it has a cold atmosphere, but that might be because my bitter was cold.

It was very rough in he past, new owners spent money to clean it up and it seemed to rise, but unfortunately with one exception the staff let it down. Bad enough that the real ale is sold chilled, there is no atmosphere and although the beer price is cheap for the area an incompetence is not forgiveable. Of four ales 2 were off then suddenly after I had taken an alternative I didn't want, 2 people behind me were given the choice I had been told was not available.
There needs to be someone who knows what they are doing, if the clientele with a passion for ale cannot be catered for then they may as well rely on microwaved mush and Eurofizz lagers. A great pity as there is potential.

A bit rough for my liking. Lovely place to see the faces around Saltdean, including a few stars from Saltdean United FC. Bar man has a bit of a dodgy fake tan though. Don't really know what he was thinking.

Despite technically being my local, I don't intend to visit here, based on advice from friends: Two of my friends got barred from the place after a local poured their pint over one of them (over a minor misunderstanding IIRC).

If you do visit the place, don't upset the locals and from the above, don't expect too much sympathy from the bar staff.

Please reinstate the review by "dirtydreamer", otherwise nobody will know what I was going on about in mine! There was nothing offensive about it. Reviews seem to be removed at the drop of a hat these days.

A group of us went here last night. It was not at all like dirtydreamer's description. In fact it was a rather boring place and would certainly have been enlivened if it had been as he found it. It seemed to be doing a good trade in food, which didn't exactly look haute-cuisine, but that's probably not what the folk of Saltdean want. Adnam's Best was the only ale on offer and it was just on the poor side of average. We weren't tempted by the 2 for 1 offer on Carling. Not a place to go out of your way for.
