user reviews of the Royal Standard, Camberley

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Yeah exactly, gonutz, these are comments written by the pub. The RS is awful on a normal pub scale, no way is it a 7 or 8 out of ten, maybe 2 or 3 if you were generous and liked your pubs full of unfriendly louts.

To be honest with you Gonutz don't think martin would know how to write his own reviews on here, so I don't think you've drunk in the Standard for a while mate! I agree about the Greene King comment but at least he hasn't sat on his arse and let the place go to rack n ruin... he obviously loves the place as much as the regulars do and I think you'll find it is THE REGULARS writing the recent comments, it's a shame you turned your back on the place but lets face facts you can't like all of the people all of the time and I guess you get along just fine with the landlord wherever you're drinking now.

Oh pleeese "DRINKY" isn't it a bit obvious when a pub writes its own reviews !!
Wake up - if Greene King thought the pub was worth investing in it would just like it invests on its other pubs locally
GONUTZ - 30 Nov 2009 22:50
Do you know what... I can't stop brewing about Gonuts comments, now I know I haven't been a 'regular' for long but from what I can gather from the friends I've made in this pub, it had really gone down hill and a lot of them went elsewhere until Martin came along and sorted the place out. Yes it's in great need of a re-furb but this is how great a community pub it is... regulars got together and re-painted the whole of the front exterior for FREE... now come on.... does that sound like the Landlords crap cos to me he must be pretty good at his job to get folks to give up their free time to do a job Greene King should have done years ago... !!

Ooops ... was so incensed by Gonutz comments got my words a bit jumbled there... meant "a bad word against Martin" Folks this really is a great pub... down there tonight... Psychic Night + Fish N Chip night and it was packed.... All age groups, Families there til around 8ish, 20's 30's 40's 50+'s, really great atmosphere, check out their page on Facebook if you don't believe me... 105 fans already and it's only been up and running for around 6-8wks, really funny lot.. currently have a kidnapped Panda Toy being held for ransom for charity !!

Oooooooooooh, Do we detect a few sour grapes from our Mr Gonutz.... maybe your problem is the fact Martin the Landlord had the common sense to rid the pub of the dope and drug culture the previous landlord had allowed to exist.... plenty of REGULARS still drinking and eating in this GREAT PUB... most have been regulars for 20-30 years and haven't met one yet that hasn't got a good word to say about THEIR landlord, remember folks ONE bad review doesn't make for a bad pub, usually from someone who has been barred !!!

WAS a great pub - present landlord fails miserably with little sense of humour or knowing how to socialise or being a "happy" pub landlord!
If you want fried/microwave food then eat here (nothing speacial) !
Could do with a big overhaul/favelift to get back all the good regulars who have now just about dimished - shame

Doesn't look much from the outside, in fact I know a lot of women are put off from going in by it but i have been using this pub for over 25yrs. Myself and friends regularly have lunch here, great prices and good food. We also get together at weekends for a drink and a gossip. This really is a friendly pub don't be put off by appearances.... please.

Love this pub, real mixture of age groups, everyone is welcomed by Martin n team and Jan really knows how to put an Event on, really good craic for all. Food has definitely improved and the 2 Portions of large Fish n Chips for 8 is a superb deal on a Friday night, beats the Chip Shop next door hands down.

Went back to the Halloween Night like I said I would. Well, what can I say, BRILLIANT, these guys know how to have fun, mix of young and old and INBETWEENIES, like me and the missus. So funny, great games as well as a Disco. Think I've definitely found my LOCAL. Thanks everyone for making me feel so welcome, GOOD STUFF !

After leaving Crimewatch UK (Crab n Dragon) walked down to The Standard, ordered 2 Roast Dinners, Chicken and Beef, weren't expecting much as they have a deal at the mo where you get 2 for 8 !! Well it was a great surprise, really good meal, chicken was a proper breast with crispy skin !! You could tell the Beef wasn't from a joint but it was still tasty. Great value, so we will be going again. Only downside, football on TV's but that's my wife's view not mine :-)

Friendly local pub with regular events and weekly darts, pub quiz/bingo. Used to drink up in town (Camberley) but the High Street's like Beirut at the weekends. Much better down the Standard - can have a relaxing night and not worry about there being any trouble.

excellent friendly pub with plenty going on.

Just popped in for a pint as I was waiting for a takeaway, there was a disco, don't understand previous comments about being a 'local', was really friendly pub, ok you get stared at for a few minutes but you get that in any pub that has a regular crowd. Got chatting to a couple of blokes and ended up collecting takeaway, Martin the landlord put it in kitchen for me! Had a brilliant night, going in again for the Halloween Disco, taking other half this time, she was none to pleased with the late takeaway delivery, so it's the least I can do! Great Real ales by the way and really fun staff, haven't laughed so much in ages..

Spent a lovely afternoon with my parents and children, we all really enjoyed our meals, the kids menu made our two feel as though they were very grown up and they ate every last bit ! Must say that the Sunday Roast was really really scrummy, would have loved to lick the plate at the end lol, Dad had the Burger with the blue cheese, can't remember what it was called now but he said it was the best tasting one he'd had any where. Martin the landlord is a really charming man, so polite and so different to our perception of landlords, nothing was too much trouble for him, even found some colouring books and crayons for the boys so we could sit back and enjoy our drinks, it's just such a shame that the decor and seating is soooo out of date, come on Greene King, you've got a great landlord and great food and service, your letting the side down big time.
