A nice little find was this. Good selection of ales, nicely decorated within, light but not bright as it got dark outside, friendly staff - a happy haven from the posh of the area, certainly a good way for a normal drinker to spend a couple of Wednesday evening hours.

And I'm a scruffy bleeder and they didn't raise an eyebrow so presumably the noises about a dress code are off.

Oh dear. I ordered a bottled drink. The barman poured it with his back to me and called over a colleague, 'whispering' that the glass had a hair in it. They gave up trying to fish it out with their fingers and poured the drink into another glass... all the time presuming I had not noticed!

So - a potentially lethal combination of thick AND unhygienic.

Good hearty food, not too overpriced. Drinks very reasonable for this part of town. Popular with suits from the local boutique investment banks and trendy fashion types from the stores on Bond Street. Relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

I don't think the legendary dress code really applies any more, although it's not the kind of place you would see ripped tshirts and shorts. More a shirt/smart jeans type of place.

A small but pleasant range of beers on offer, usually a couple of decent ales on tap. Gets very busy at lunchtime, particularly in the spring/summer, when drinkers will spill out on to the street.

A dress code? Really?

Most of the times I've been there (more than I care to admit to) I've been in jeans and a t-shirt.

Admittedly I was generally the scruffiest one in there but still........

I have used this pub a few times and was most impressed. Today I popped in and was told they have a dress code suits only! Probably its one of those ideas which in time will be quoted as a good idea at the time. Seems a shame but I am not going to wear a suit to drink tomato juice!

Smallish single roomed pub with a mock tudor frontage as can be seen in the photograph. It's a Greene King establishment and as such one of the better ones I've been to in London. Ale offerings were St Edmunds, GKIPA, Old Speckled Hen and Royal London.

In the early evening this pub had a very relaxed atmosphere and while it might get busier later I found it a very pleasant place to while away an hour and read the paper.

It's alright......handily close to work to wash the day away.

Touch expensive (then again, understandable considering the location) but what really annoys me about the place is that the royal london is actually cold upstairs which is just wrong.

Used the Masons in the 90's a fair bit at times, and is officially 'a pub I like'.
Pint of Spitfire and a chat with a fellow Sat aft Londoner drinker along the bar made for a good atmosphere. With the telly on quiet but so you can keep an eye on gloom and doom news and sport results and Proper service from Proper pub staff. Class

Best air conditioning in town !!! Reasonable pub - decent beer and food - but in this weather it seemed like heaven !!!!!
millreef - 1 Jul 2009 08:18
Reasonable just about sums it up, nothing out of the ordinary in the way of beer, or food for that matter. Decor is ok, again nothing remarkable, friendly landlord though, its a pop in if you are passing job, rather than a seek it out.

Fairly ordinary, unremarkable pub tucked away in the back streets of Mayfair. Nothing unusual in the way of ales GKIPA, Spitfire and London Pride. I had the Pride, which was not brilliant, but drinkeable. The only features worth mentioning are the big fireplace (gas fired) that forms something of a central feature, and the tiled coving with an appropriate grape motif. Good enough pub to drop into for a pint if you are passing (which is how I happened to visit), but I dont think that I would go out of my way to visit again.

Refurbished recently, took out the nice comfy sofas to be replaced with uncomfortable high stools, changed the lighting, the candles were so much better. It was dead quiet last Friday. Atmosphere all but gone. I have never known it like that in 17 years. Why did they have to mess with it?

Much better under the new management. Nice little touches like candles and great food. Toilets checked every hour. Can get a little busy on a Friday so get there early for a seat.

A nice find on one of the back streets along from Regent Street. Went in around 8 on a Friday night and it was nicely full with a good mix of people. Nice atmosphere and definitely would be a place worth returning to.

Good find. Tudor exterior. Cosy interior with Fire and sofas. Bunches of grapes on the cornicing. Seemed to have a comedy club upstairs...

A nice little pub well hidden just off Regents Street. Staff were a bit rubbish, but this is central london. Pub itself was dark, traditional, with open fire. I like.

Visited 14 Sep 05. There were two real ales available, we had Fullers London Pride which was in good condition, and served with a smile.

Reiterating all that has gone before, this is a quiet little pub, which was pleasent for us. I don't understand why this should be so empty. It is a lovely little place. Visit it.

I was recently visiting London from the USA and stumbled upon this pub. At first I could not understand why the pub only had 4 people inside, all the other surrounding pubs were full of business men. There were 3 gentlemen who walked in right before we did. Gradually small groups of friends began arriving. We had the sausages & mash which were very good. I will definately visit Masons Arms again next time I am in London.

This is my favourite pub anywhere. A little oasis just a short walk from the chaos of Regent and Oxford Streets. Low, stained ceilings, sofas and stools, subdued lighting, copper bar, small snug for 2 if you get there before 11.59am or 5.29pm, old style glazing to the front windows, toilets (mens anyway haven't been in the Ladies) straight out of the Victorian era, ornaments all around the pub (copper jugs, lamps, etc.). There is a restaurant upstairs but this seems to be used more by tourists who stumble across the pub clutching their Londres Guides. I used to have the traditional pub fayre of sausage and onions in a french stick from the hot food counter at the end of the bar. Used to be run by a Polish (?) lady who was great and now in keeping with all pubs everywhere, some of the staff tend to have a slight problem with the English language. Not a problem here though as one can point to the pump. I love this place

Proper drinkers pub just off Regent Street but not frequented by tourists (unless lost) standard S&N beers but well kept. Low ceilings, brass bar top, low stools around tables, sofas and a small snug for as couple, artifacts at high level around the pub. It just feels like you have escaped the rat race once you walk through the door. There is a restaurant upstairs, but I have only ever had the bar snacks which have always been fine. TV at one end of the pub and the toilets (Gents anyway, I cannot comment on the Ladies) have the original vitreous china urinals and brass pipework. This is my favourite London pub basically because it doesn't try to be anything else
